Protecting your home and your family need not be difficult and overwhelming. There are various things you can do to buff the security of your house and surrounding property.

One way would be to make sure that your house is equipped with the necessary safety precautions. To protect your family from fire, it would be ideal to use flame-retardant furniture, curtains, carpets, and other furnishings. Make sure also that wirings and appliances in your house do not present fire hazards. Also, if you do not have a fire exit yet or a second door, you better have one now as this can save your life if ever your house burns down. It is also advisable to invest in fire extinguishers, and be sure to teach everyone in the family how to use it. If you can afford it, by all means get a fire alarm system and a sprinkler system in your house.

To protect yourselves from floods and earthquakes, it is advisable that you do your best to ensure the stability of your home. If there are parts that are crumbling down or could use a new beam, repairs should be done immediately. Additionally, be sure to stock medicine, food, batteries, and flashlights for emergencies.

If your concern is burglary, then an alarm system would go a long way to ensuring your peace of mind. To further deter thieves, put up "no trespassing", "high voltage", or "beware of dogs" signs. Speaking of signs, you can also use them in and around your home to remind the whole family to do what is safe.
