To create a powerful impact on people, signs are commonly used. Signs are fundamental in every industry and whether they are used for households or for offices, they speak volumes. In order to keep ourselves informed and aware of things, signs are set up.
Good and well laid out signs always catch people’s attention. To make sure that the signs in use are effective, a few things should be kept in mind. Firstly and most importantly, the material of the sign should be of top quality. This means that signage made out of cardboard or plastic should be avoided at offices, as they look shabby.
After all, it is the sign that represents the status and the image of the company. Make sure that the material is long lasting and weather proof, so that the sign does not give way during heavy rains or due to corrosion or rusting. The content on the sign should be accurate. Too much text is a mistake.
If the sign includes images then there should be clarity and precision. The quality of a sign should be so good that it can be used for a long time. When placing orders for signs, make sure that they are cost efficient. Signs are primarily used to attract people’s attention. Therefore, they have to be exceptionally good in quality and appearance.

The designs of Birmingham City University are to be transformed after a £150m development plan was sanctioned last month by Birmingham City Council. Last week, the lead designer and associated architects were appointed; and Birmingham consultancy Inside Information are to design the signage, navigation and wayfinding elements. The entire contract is likely to be worth approximately £200000, which is yet to be finalised.
With this contract, the contractor is supposed to design a proper signage and holistic wayfinding system for the new campus. The director of Inside Information, Tristram Woolston, said Birmingham City Council has to approve this project. This project will include a complex vehicle that will be circulating inside Birmingham city centre and also within some complicated pedestrian navigation routes.
Woolston also added that it is very difficult for one to reach the Eastside area from Birmingham city centre. It is very complex in terms of pedestrian circulation and traffic outside the city centre. Having signage at such places can help people to reach their destinations accurately.
The campus will be having landscaped areas, public spaces, dedicated teaching areas etc. They are also planning to design signage with which it can become easy to plan the route from the entry point to the campus.

Potential customers visit trade shows regularly; therefore, it is important to attract them to your stall. If you want to grab the attention of customers in an exhibition and trade show then you should utilise the space which is allotted to you in the appropriate way. Advertising products and merchandise with the help of banner stands makes your trade show stand out.
Banner stands give the trade show a completely new look. Companies use trade shows to launch their new products; but banner stands can promote existing product lines also.
If you are planning to attend an exhibition in order to advertise and promote your company then you should give some serious thought to the way in which you display yourself. Before purchasing a banner stand, always do some research on exhibition products that are available, you can attend various trade shows and make a note of the stands that catch the eye and attract a greater number of people.
You should look at similar products and see how they are displayed. You can pick up a lot of tips and ideas this way. You can also get customised banners that allow you to be creative, dramatic and have relevant material for supporting your launch in the most effective manner. Make sure that you place the banner stand in such a way that your message gets across and your products get the attention of customers.

Conor Murphy, road minister of Northern Ireland has appreciated the way the Larne area is progressing; it now has an overall investment of £2.3m. He highlighted that on the junctions like Old Ballyhampton Road, Ballyhampton Road, Mullaghboy Road, and Gobbins Road visibility has improved.
Mr. Murphy also said that, in the Seacliff estate, traffic soothing methods have been introduced. On Old Glenarm Road, close to the cemetery, a pelican crossing has been installed. Also the Ballyboley Primary School, Old Glenarm Road, Braepark Road and Corran Integrated Primary School, have introduced flashing lights and warning signage.
Terry Fulton, Principal Engineer of Road Services, was extremely happy about the investment in safety measures and local transport in Larne. It includes measures to assist pedestrians, cyclists and smooth traffic.
He also added that the road service will further continue to focus on the scheme delivery in the council area of Larne. Safety signages are of great importance as they help people to navigate through at a proper route. They will also try to reduce the overall disturbance that will be arising from their work; and at the same time will provide motorists with an advanced warning of road works.

In signage, a pictogram is an image that is used to quickly and easily communicate a message to the audience. In statutory signage, pictograms follow a specific set of colours, shapes and size rules. In countries like the UK, the width of a sign pictogram is set at 80% of the area of the sign.
Signs have very specific shapes; the shapes used are all the same for a purpose and follow a set of rules dictating which shape to use for what purpose. It is very easy for a pictogram to be instantly recognised and understood by people. For this to work, pictures must be kept consistent. In the purest form, pictograms on a sign have to be understood by people even if there is no text present in it.
Following a standard colours and shapes rule increases the chances of universal acceptance and understanding of pictograms and signage. Generally square signs are used for conveying an informational message to the people. Square signs provide information about where a particular thing is, what that thing is and so on. In contrast, circular signs have instructions that must be followed.

Signs have great importance in our life, be it a safety sign or road sign that we see on the streets. Signs tell us about important things to which we should pay attention. Every now and then we encounter different types of signs. Often, we take signs for granted and fail to follow them, although it is very important to do so. Signs guide us to how we should follow or avoid certain things.
Signs are vital for a business organisation as they inform people about what they should do to avoid harm. Signs can have simple instructions and graphics to help people. Signs convey messages which ensure that people are aware of hazards and dangers. Signs help people to prevent injuries and other hazards that could have unfortunate consequences.
Signs are important in the workplace and construction sites as such places are open to the general public. Signs prevent injury to people that are near the area where scaffolding and construction work is carried our. Therefore it becomes essential that signs must have a message that is clearly displayed and understandable.
Signs maintain safety for the public. Safety signs are used in industrial areas as they reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of employees. Along with providing the safety measures, safety signs also provide route information, location and other necessary information.

Use of signs is one of the most effective ways of communication, especially when words cannot be used. Signs are used for various purposes at different places. One of the most important places where signs are commonly used is our roads. Road signs are a common sight whenever one is travelling by road.
Reading road signs is an important skill as they convey to you various instructions that may be too large to put in words. Therefore it is necessary that every driver is familiar with what type of message is associated with each sign before he obtains his drivers license. Road signs stand as route guides, warning and traffic flow regulator for motorists and pedestrians likewise.
Road signs come in a variety of shapes and colours. Most of these signs come in bright colours such as red, yellow, green or blue and the three most common shapes are circle, triangle and rectangle. Circular signs are usually used for mandatory messages along with the colour red. Triangular signs are used for warning messages along with the colour yellow. Rectangular signs are used for informational messages along with the colours green or blue.
Different types of road signs include reflective traffic signage and pedestrians and traffic control cones. The surfaces of traffic signage are often made of reflective materials. This is to ensure that the signs are visible even when the light is dim and are able to serve their purpose of warning the driver as early as possible.

Councils could be hit with large bills because of the new EU laws which state that they must install passively safe signposts which will cost ten times more than the normal signs. The law requires local authorities to use a safer structure for new and replacement roadside signs. These signs are designed to crumple under impact; therefore they lessen the risk of injury. Safety signs are considered a safer option than existing metal-poled designs.
These signs are already is use along the British motorways and in Sussex at a new road scheme at Beddingham, near Lewes. When East Sussex County Council considered the implication of the changes they used two “Welcome to Seaford” signs on A259 as an example.
It cost around £1,000 to install it in August, whereas the passively safe form will work out at £15,300. The council identified four possible locations where these new safety signs could be installed over the previous installation.
Figures have shown that from 2005 to 2007, a total of 5,659 vehicles have crashed on the roads in East Sussex where the speed limit was around 40 mph or even less. Of 31, only 0.5 percent involves road signs and traffic signals.
According to a spokesperson for West Sussex County Council, they were still looking at the implications but certainly there would be a major financial implication when they put in new signs.

Are you aware of what a sign can do for you? Well for starters it gives you information, visual appeal and of course guidance. Everywhere you go there are numerous signs that catch your eyes. While some are full of informative content others simply have images.
Promotion and publicity are probably the most common reasons for using signage. However, signs have a lot more to convey besides just publicity. A simple sign that says ‘welcome’ outside your house reflects the warm personality of the owner. While a sign at a construction site could warn you about the ill effects of being there.
An important aspect that is essential with the need for a sign is the presentation or the look and feel of the sign. A sign is no good if the quality does not match its content. If a sign is put up at a museum it needs to be elegant and attractive therefore the material should be apt. If the sign is laminated it enhances the overall presentation.
Similarly if a sign is put up outside an establishment or a company it needs to be strong and durable. Metal signs are an ideal choice for such places. Special attention should be given to the engraving and printing on the signs for a long lasting impact.

A sign not only provides information and keeps you alert, but it can also leave a great impression on what the sign represents. Signs are purely laid out to send over a signal to the viewer.
Imagine you are in an exhibition where there is an abundance of items laid out for display, and of course purchase. However, with the absence of a sign tagged along with their respective items it could leave you confused and unsure. Therefore, appropriate signage not only reveals information about the article but it also lures and drives people towards them.
Consider another scenario that of a fire station where the firemen are on their toes to save lives. However not everybody is aware about the rules of fire safety, in such a case a well laid out signage that describes the rules and standards of fire safety and security would be ideal and viewable by everyone.
Industries and companies also need to have signs that display their names. A strong and elegant signage out side the company would not only enhance the status but also provide a visual appeal to the company. A good sign would reflect the overall personality of a company. Also make sure that the material used to create the sign complements the purpose.
